Join New Museum educators on May 2 for a special First Saturdays for Families leading up to the 2015 IDEAS CITY Festival, which will take place the weekend of May 28–30.
This biennial initiative considers the future of cities around the globe with the belief that art and culture are essential to the vitality of urban centers, making them better places to live, work, and play. This special Family Day will explore a variety of questions focused on the city and city life. If streets could talk, for example, what stories would they share? With fellow participants, create a collaborative landscape inspired by the surroundings of the New Museum. Using an array of different materials, trace your steps on neighborhood maps, uncover invisible skylines, and build your own museum.
New Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children aged between three and eight years and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free. No preregistration is required. Space is limited, and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
Generous support for New Museum First Saturdays for Families is provided by the Keith Haring Foundation School, Teen, and Family Programs Fund.
This program is also made possible, in part, by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts. Additional support is provided by the TD Charitable Foundation and the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation. Endowment support is provided by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Skadden, Arps Education Programs Fund, and the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fund for Education Programs at the New Museum.
