Join us for a Family Day drawing inspiration from the exhibition “Sarah Lucas: Au Naturel,” on view at the New Museum from September 26 to January 20, 2019. Often drawing inspiration from found and everyday objects and materials, Sarah Lucas creates playful, confrontational, and disorienting sculptures. Human anatomy and biomorphic forms serve as Lucas’s muse in her NUDS series. These soft, twisting, and bulbous sculptures made with tights—like her earlier animal forms, Big Fat Anarchic Spider and Octopus (both 1993)—at once evoke vulnerable elasticity and the marble surfaces of classical sculpture. Using materials similar to those employed by Lucas, such as stuffing and stockings, families are invited to create their own soft sculptures in the seventh floor Sky Room.
Family Day will be held in the Sky Room and takes inspiration from work in the central third floor gallery of the exhibition (pictured). Adult caregivers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with works throughout the exhibition floors, or ask a staff member for information, if planning to explore the galleries further with their families.
New Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children aged between four and twelve years, and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free. No preregistration is required. Space is limited, and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
