People’s State of the Union: “2015 Poetic Address to the Nation”

Part of the Aula Series A Performative Conference in Nine Acts

What if the annual State of the Union was not a speech spoken by one, but a poem created by many? In January 2015, individuals in more than 150 communities across the country hosted “story circle” events, inviting neighbors to reflect on the current state of our union by sharing personal anecdotes. Inspired by these tales, an all-star group of poets from across the US collaboratively wrote the “2015 Poetic Address to the Nation.” Join us for a live performance of the “Poetic Address,” and learn about the US Department of Arts and Culture’s next new civic ritual.
